Kimotsuki Museum of History and Folklore
The Kimotsuki Museum of History and Folklore exhibits a variety of common items used in earlier periods of Kimotsuki’s history. It also displays ancient artifacts discovered in the Tsukazaki Kofun Cluster, an area of the town containing over 50 burial mounds referred to as kofun. The kofun date back to the fourth and fifth century and are the oldest found on the Osumi Peninsula. Notable kofun in the Tsukazaki Kofun Cluster include number 1, a kofun with a giant camphor tree growing out of it, and number 51, the southern-most keyhole-shaped kofun in Japan.
Learn more about kofun number 1 by visiting the Giant Camphor Tree in Tsukazaki page.
